Pear Sauce with Lemon and Cloves

Garden in September

Early cloudy morning

Cosmos still blooming,

Rhubarb luxuriates.

Pears under the old pear tree.

Late blooming gladiolus.

Rudbeckia is beautiful even after flowering.

Fried zucchini, fried potatoes and fresh tomatoes for dinner.

Green tomato chutney

I got antonovka apples from my relatives and stewed apples with sugar.

My own invented recipe for “Rosa Rugosa Poetry Jam”:

60 dag rose hips
120 dag antonovka apples
2 chilli peppers
a handful of lemon basil
75 dag sugar
600 ml water

Method preparation
Remove the seeds from rose hips. Boil water and sugar until sugar dissolves completely. Place rose hips, chilli peppers and apples into this syrup. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer. Cook until fruit are soft and mashable. Add chopped basil and cook again for 20 minutes.

Old Plum Trees

Four old-growth plum trees stay in the garden.

The first inedible plums are falling in the nearby vegetable garden.

It isn’t possible to pick fruit with your hand from branches.

It is necessary to shake the tree.

Garden in August

My favourite preserved cucumbers

This is the recipe:

4 kg cucumbers
0,5 kg red bell peppers
0,5 kg onions
2 litres water for soaking vegetables
1 litre water for syrup
33 dag salt
330 ml vinegar
26 dag sugar
1,5 teaspoon of coriander
1,5 teaspoon of mustard seeds

Preparation method
Wash cucumbers and peppers. Slice peppers and onions. Place cucumbers, onions, peppers and 2 litres of salted water in a large bowl and let stand for three hours. After 3 hours pour away the liquid. Put 1 litre of water, sugar, vinegar, coriander and mustard seeds in the pan. Heat until boiling. Fill sterilised jars with the vegetables and cover with the syrup. Seal vegetables using the boiling water bath method.
